How can I get the rental car that I actually want to drive instead of just getting whatever the agency has on the lot? I've tried reserving specific cars, but all they'll guarantee is a car of that class, and they've even failed at that.

That doesn't help. I'm willing to pay their top rate, but they rarely come up with the vehicle I want.

I ran into this also. You had to do the dream cars with Avis to get a specific car and the pictures looked outdated by 8 years. I’m not renting a 2011 base 911 or a 2009 C63 according to the pics and specs listed. That also needed a government ID and a license, my passport that I learned had expired 2 weeks before I was going. I chose a MB E350 and was given a Cadillac XTS due to system crashing. Hated it

Because it is all about scheduling. When you book your reservation, the cars currently on the lot won't be the cars on the lot when you actually go and pick up the vehicle. They aren't going to leave a vehicle unrented just so you can have that specific vehicle. When it comes the day for you to pick up the vehicle, ask them what other vehicles they have available at that time and choose between them. Even then, you might not be able to get it depending on existing reservations.

Use a service like Turo. Other wise you take what you get.

Are you a member of their loyalty program at any specific high level?

I took a look at what was available and couldn't find what I was interested in. Thanks for the suggestion, though.

No. Just a guy who needs to rent a car every few years and doesn't like paying good money for something that isn't really what I want to be driving.

Which car do you want?

Some rental car places allow you to go out to the lot and choose.

However, they may not carry the specific model you want.
