Was just down in Midtown Manhattan and spotted an entire street of vintage 1970's cars. Chevy's, a Mercedes Benz, and others, nearly entire street on both sides filled.

Vehicles are parked overnight on West 29th between Sixth and Seventh avenues (heavily guarded by NYPD), for a film shoot. Didn't look at posted notices to see if the shoot will last more than one day, so vehicles may be gone by tomorrow.

From signs in some front windows it seems the cars are owned by a company that specializes in props for film.

Sometimes a movie will put out a local feeler for owners of cars of certain vintages if they don't have enough. I had my car in a movie that needed cars from the 80's. Car was pretty much just parked in the background and never driven. I got to hang around the set for a bit. When the movie came out, unfortunately there wasn't a cut where it could be seen.

They'll often use agencies with access to many different vehicles, I believe the following is one of the larger ones in the NYC area: Movie Time Cars | vehicles for production | tv, movies, commercial ads and more | props

Yup, and through the agency was how I was contacted. Well, to be more specific, I came across the request on an enthusiast board and volunteered my period-correct (at the time) car. This was maybe ~10-12 years ago.

It was really low-level stuff...just a car in a background on a street that never got on camera. I knew that going in. I wouldn't do it again though.

Sorry guys, no snaps.

Was hot, tired and walking to catch the train home. Didn't put two and two together until half way up the block.
