Just goes to show how wretched that depreciation is.
The base cost isn't the problem, its keeping up with all the maintenance requirements and dumping 91 octane in it just to deliver pizzas. On a depreciation and maintenance basis, he's probably barely breaking even on that pizza delivery job.
This, my brother who is a longtime mechanic sees this all the time in his shop. People, especially kids, buy a fancy used luxury car and the first time it breaks it cost them five times what it would on a econobox to fix. Not unusual for them to be left at the shop and mechanic liens put on them. Some people fall in love with the idea of driving a luxury car but have no idea of the cost of repairs and maintenance.

The pizza delivery person is mostly likely driving more than the average person. Plus, insurance is probably double, premium gas is 30 cents a gallon more, and repairs cost double or triple other car brands.
Just seems like it would cost a lot to maintain for someone who is driving that much.
That car is most likely a 2008 - 2010 C300. $5000 - 6500 car. Why is everyone obsessing over the old inexpensive car a hardworking pizza delivery guy drives? Pretty petty.
My bet is that he delivers pizza as a second job because he found out the hard way that he could not live beyond his means.
I have known people who live in McMansions and drive luxury SUVs that have had to dig through couch cushions so their kids could have lunch money at school.
The guy with the Mercedes may have lost his good paying job and is taking what is available to put food on his family's table. That is an honorable thing to do. Unemployment insurance is not going to cover the $12,000 a year cost of Obamacare that people are required to buy.

Last year my bf and I got picked up by an Uber driver in a brand-new looking Cadillac Escalade. We thought it was odd, but maybe just a retiree who wanted something to do. The Mercedes is nuts for pizza delivery, much harder on your car too than Uber because it's a lot of miles in a small radius area. When I used to drive for Dominos back in the day, I sometimes put 100 miles on a busy Friday night, all stop and go in a 5-miles radius.
What's going on with that? Even if it's C class wouldn't it be too expensive to maintain?
Don't have time to wade through several pages of responses to see if mentioned already, but you do realize that in Europe and elsewhere MB vehicles are used for everything from taxis to delivery vans and so forth.
It only is in North America that Mercedes-Benz has some sort of luxury mystique. In Germany and elsewhere it is just another motor vehicle brand with a vast array of offerings.
I am unimpressed. But then throughout the 00s, I used to regularly see a pizza delivery DeLorean (pizza guaranteed to arrive before you actually thought to order it?) around town.

Cannot speak for elsewhere but here in NYC the Escalade has become limousine of choice for a certain demographic, and that has rolled on down to Uber.
Outside our very best private schools you find a sea of Range Rovers (driven by moms or dads) and Escalades (by family driver) waiting to pick up children after school.
