Some of these transplants really surprised me. BMW and a bunch of others are said to be as "American" as apple pie and yet the X5 has only 15% domestic content. They are really an assembly point.

What I am most interested in is where the big money goes (i.e. the higher paying jobs). R & D., risk management (insurance and legal), marketing, finance, production management, top management, etc. Perhaps most important to me is who builds their factories, but that is personal more than a big picture concern.

Very helpful, if you drive a 2016 model car.

It's listed on the window sticker, if it's going to influence somebody's purchase decision they'll know. And if you buy used, who cares, you're not supporting anyone with a used car purchase other than the previous owner.

You will never really know the true amount of we’re the vehicle parts are made do you have any idea how many parts go into making a vehicle. They will never list what country every nut and bolt or plastic clips was made, if they did that the list would be a mile long. You can have multiple suppliers making the same parts from different plants all over the world. Also we’re the parts are made will only have the auto companies name on it even though they the automakers didn’t make the parts themselves but it’s their patented part.

The list tells a quite a story about American industry. I never realized we went from exporting 80% of the worlds cars to less the 9% currently. I would also put more trust in the AALA label percentage of foreign parts for an accurate assessment of what the car is made of on that list. Availability of parts in the future is my question with such complex ever changing distribution channels. Ford Fusion 26% American made according to the AALA label what's up with that?

Our main car is apparently 75% domestic, but my VW beetle is listed at 5%! Not surprising, if I recall most of the parts are made and/or assembled in Mexico?

Well that index was interesting.

I thought that the only thing in my car that was made in America was me.
