It was announced about a week ago that Mr. Marchionne was resigning as CEO effective at once due to complications from shoulder surgery.
Mr. Marchionne had undergone a rather routine operation but something (and we still don't know) happened and he was then in intensive care on a ventilator. Efforts to wean him off failed, then he died.
IMHO this has a whiff of the late "Joan Rivers" about it; the operation was routine, Mr. Marchionne was in reasonably good health before undergoing, but ends up in a coma then dead.
A friend in the auto industry sent me the following: Per an Italian news report, while he was having surgery for a cancer (sarcoma) in the shoulder (which a doctor had been treating with steroids), an embolism (of fatty tissue) formed and went to his brain and blocked blood flow, causing irreversible brain damage. We also do not know what prior conditions he may have had. There was also a report of a recent (?) collision he had while driving a Ferrari 599. I’m sure more news will eventually come out.

Thank you for that; it fills in many of the blanks.
Product-wise I can't think of anything. Dodge and Chrysler had all the products they do now unless you count Fiat 500 as the singular model that turned Chrysler around.
Was it magic, or was it luck in terms of timing with low gas prices / strong US economy which motivated buyers to purchase big Ram pickups and Jeeps? Although from all accounts I read he was a shrewd businessman. Someone else mentioned Hyundai buying Fiat Chrysler. I googled it and saw the rumors. That deal could make sense since Hyundai’s small cars sell well around the world (unlike Fiat) so there would be a good hedge if/when fuel prices rise again, but also add a good portfolio of trucks and SUVs when fuel prices are low which Hyundai currently lacks. Hyundai isn’t at Toyota levels of reliability, but they’re better than Chrysler Fiat so perhaps there would be some quality improvements.

It so hard to start a tread on here about one thing because it turns something that’s not even related to the subject at hand, here we’re talking about the death of the Chrysler CEO and then it turns into a bashing of the company with none on here haven’t a clue about Chrysler because none on here are employees of Chrysler everyone sees something on the internet so it must be true. So keep on bashing on a company that just lost their CEO. Keep on hoping that Americans will loose their jobs as long it no you’re job love the compassion for your fellow American workers.
