Maybe not, but one was committed. My Pontiac Fiero had a reputation for catching on fire and burning to the frame.

Most cars with direct injection lately have plastic engine covers with lots of sound deadening foam under them to muffle the ticking noise of the fuel pump. I would imagine even with the smallest fire once it ignites that foam there’s no stopping it.

Many vehicles use plastic fuel lines with plastic clip connectors. I have had at least 2 or 3 Buicks with leaks at the connector to the fuel rail under the hood. Also, have had at least 2 with leaks at where the plastic fuel line meets the fuel filter near the tank underneath the vehicle.
