Yes you’re now absolved of anything the new owner does.

I had a fre friends who did the exact thing. Yet they all had issues after the fact. One turned in all the paperwork like he was supposed to. 5 months later he’s getting calls from a tow service company that they have his truck. Lo ad behold DMV never got his release of liability. Oops

Another buddy got notices of unpaid parking tickets. On a sold vehicle. He had to deal with that bs for a week.

I use AAA. We walk in, g9 to the counter, here is this here is that sign here stamp there now I no longer have any issues. Takes 15 minutes out of my day, saves me possibly hours of headaches later. I’ve soak my last three cars with this condition. Only on3 guy has a issue with it. He was busy. Ok fool go be busy with another seller.

When you move out of state you are supposed to surrender the plates on the car.

Ok you can buy a plate off eBay. Big deal. So what. It would most likely be out of state out of date wrong number letter format and immediately flagged by a passing cop car. So go ahead and do that. If you’re going to that much trouble to avoid a registration of a vehicle you got more issues than a car registration. And that is the ribsboy a person I wouldn’t ant anything to do with in the first place
You never stop, do you? California plates are not tuned back to DMV, and never have been. There are thousands of them for sale on eBay.

I've still got two sets of Cali plates from my time there. I guess I never got the memo to turn them back into DMV.

Me too. When I came to Oregon, I took my California plates off and put the Oregon plates on. I still have the California plates. I also still have the Nevada plates I took off my car from when I moved from Nevada to California. License plates are a dime a dozen.

Hmmm, the parking ticket hassel.
I once traded my car at a small Dlr.
6 months later get a city parking ticket in the mail.
I answered with the trade-in date with the dlrs name etc...never heard back.
Dlr made some mistake in selling my old ride.
Anyhoo Calif wrecking yards turn in any plates and papers into the DMV on any private purchase...same if they were to buy from the many wrecks/stolen/insurance yards by sealed bids.
A salvage license is needed as I found out one time.
I put a sealed bids on a car that ended up at a friend's shop for a lower price in a multiple car bid...insurance discretion.
