With Ford at least.
There is no gas cap.
Some plunger material where you just put the gas station nozzle in.
Except: All Fords now come with a plastic funnel hidden some place in the vehicle. Because gas can nozzles not able to get through the capless opening.
So how much weight savings have been accomplished with this set up?

It’s not weight it’s cost savings Ford is saving millions of dollars by getting rid of gas caps, they sell about 85,000 F150 a month now say that Ford pays a automotive supplier $1.00 a gas cap that’s a savings of $85,000 a month in savings just on the F150 a month now times that by 12 that’s over a million dollars a year just for their F150 not including their SUVs sedans it’s all about $$$$.

Ford had no gas cap back in 2011......GM stopped in some of their SUVs a few years back also.
The "capless" cap also helps reduce the number of owners who bring their car in for service because the Check Engine Light is on because they could not be bothered to tighten the cap the 3 clicks as required .
I used to work at a Volvo dealer. We would see 2 or 3 of these a week. Some owners had the car towed in.

If only people would read their manuals. That happened on my wife's CRV when we first bought it. I looked at the manual, went and tightened the cap some more and light went away on the next drive.
I prefer not having the gas cap, don't have to worry about it scratching up against the paint when you go to put gas in.

GM, at least the last few I have had, have a little tang on the door to kinda latch the cap onto to keep it from hanging, and have a plastic "string" to keep from leaving it at the pump.
