I have sunroof in multiple cars but I never find them a necessity. I rarely see people use them. So why do people want them?
Seems like you should provide an answer to the question as well?
For the most part, the cars I've bought for the family have come with them. Even though I've never had is as a hard requirement - it's often part of the trim. And it's nice to have that option, no matter how little you use it. Albeit currently, two of my cars don't have them as they are performance/track oriented cars and it simply wasn't an option.
Off topic - cruise control is an option that I definitely would have zero use for. In over 30 years of driving, I've never actually used it.
I don't like sunroofs. I'm tall and they usually reduce the headroom.
Most cars I have they increase the headroom. Normally you have insulation and a liner. Where the sunroof is - just glass. The glass is flush mounted so it is the equivalent to removing the headliner and insulation. It gives me an extra 2" of headroom. Open the sunroof and I get an extra 2,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 inches of headroom.
In general I will not buy a car that has no sunroof. If one falls into my lap as happens sometimes, I will tolerate it, but not by choice. I feel like I am driving in a tuna can if I do not have a sunroof. Sunroofs open up the interior of the car and bring in the sky. I never close the cover unless the sun/heat is simply intolerable (which is maybe one day every two years) and I open the glass whenever practical. Even in the winter, I will turn the heat on high and open the sunroof at times.
On a really hot day when you are out and about and come back to your parked car you can open it along with the windows to suck out the hot air in a hurry.
We keep ours shut and the cover closed. I would prefer not to have one at all, but that wasn't an option. Back when we had a mini Cooper we especially disliked the sun roof as it only had one of those filter shades and not a solid panel. First world problem!
If I can't have a convertible, I want a sunroof. Sad to say my current daily driver wasn't available in either configuration. But my second car is a convertible, so it all evens out.
We have had them on our cars for years. We hardly use them. We rarely use them on the highways as they are too noisy. We do occasionally use them on local roads, but if it is a short trip it is not worth opening. In the winter it is too cold and in the summer it is usually to hot and humid. When you add in all the buses and trucks spewing diesel, the time to use them shrinks. They can also cause water problems if the drains get clogged. I could do without the moon/sun roof.
Having said all that, I have enjoyed them on a cool summer night on a long highway run with just me in the car and some tunes cranking.

My wife's current vehicle came with a sunroof, there was no choice. She uses it on occasion...
