In all my years, we never had a car that needed to be junked. Our 1998 Chevy Cavalier didn't pass Virginioa's safety inspection because of frame rust through in several places. It's time. What do we do? The engine is great with 135,000 on it. i'd love to sell parts, but we live in an apartment. Do junkyards pay for cars? It's probably no worth much, but just wondering.

Google junkyards in your area and they will come pick it up and give you $100 or so. I've done it a couple times, they will expect the title.

There was recently another thread about using peddle.com. They are a national website that gives you an offer based on the information you put in. If you accept their offer they assign a local company to come pick your car up and pay you the cash. I recently used it to scrap a car and it went very well. I cleared $275 but it will vary by vehicle.

I assume it drives, and you can drive it to the junkyard? That's likely the easiest option. It costs a lot more if they come and get it.

Would you consider donating it

In some places you'll get a receipt for a tax deduction

Around here junk yards will usually pay $100.00 for scrape metal. Sometimes nothing depending on wholesale price of scrap metal. That is the pickup price if can't drive to salvage yard.

Many times mentioned on here. Annual oil undercoating. You would still be driving car if you had the annual oil undercoating for this car.

put the car up on craigslist and offer it up for something like $500. tell the prospective buyer that you are selling it for parts because it failed the state inspection, but that the car does run and drive, assuming it does.

That's something I thought of doing. If no one takes it then we can do the other suggestions .

Donate it to your state's public broadcast organization and you'll get a tax receipt from them that will probably give you more gain, than if you sold it.
