In my 31 years of driving, I have had only one ticket and that was when I was 17 and it was for making a California stop ( I only slowed down instead of stopping ). I set my cruise at no more than 2 miles over the speed limit and always, ALWAYS Stop at stop signs. Like wise, I have never had an accident aka vehicle collision.

Congratulations on your (nearly) perfect driving record, but in the case of your last sentence always remember that you must drive defensively. I'm a very safe driver myself, but that couldn't have prepared me for being rear-ended at a red light in mid-2006. There's always a nut job (or ten) on the roads, so be vigilant!

I was in my 40s before I got a ticket. Felt it was unfair, so wrote the judge and got it rescinded. Have been stopped several times since, just with warnings.

I was leaving late to take my driving instructor's tests because I had spilled coffee on my shirt and tie and had to change clothes. Almost made it to the freeway when I was pulled over for doing 50 in a 35 zone. Did pass the tests, though.

1. Grin and bear it for the next 3 years or so at which time your rates should go back down.

2. Don't speed in Orange County any more.

Fortunately, I had two tickets for speeding as a young driver. One, I was actually guilty of going fast, and knowing I was going fast, while the other was for absentmindedly going down the highway too fast. After that, I started using the cruise control feature consistently.

I actually got a ticket, in my youth, for going too slow -- 25 in a 35, I seem to recall. The judge threw it out of court. I never quite understood what exactly the cop was trying to prove, if anything? Going too slow is as dangerous as going too fast, I think he argued. Again, my mind had just wandered on the way to work one a.m.

Scary to think how many of us, at any given time, are driving absentmindedly.
