As a young, single, immortal and bulletproof Airman, I got several "fast driving awards" back in the '70s. I also got a speeding ticket in a construction zone in Germany (pay the fine at the post office, no points or insurance rate rise ) In my 11 years of trucking, I've never gotten a speeding ticket but have gotten several trucking-only violations; 2 overweight fines, driving on a restricted route and two equipment violation tickets.

Wow, but that trooper was most generous. I thought the rule was 10+ miles -- and perhaps it is just here in NC, but at 15+, you stand to lose your license if convicted. It affects your INS as 'points' against your driving record, and constitutes whether you have to take the written test again.
Here in the state, there is currently a campaign to Slow-It-Down, and the local, and state officers, are ticketing speeders. "No need to speed," is what I think I've heard.
The funniest thing I ever had happen was during a trip I made to GA. Upon arriving at a friend's house, I learned one of the major hurricanes in our state's recent history, was headed for the NC coast which I called 'home.' I got back in the car, after pacing for hours, and was flying, almost literally, down the HWY to get back to NC, when I passed -- yes! passed! -- a State Trooper. . .
I knew I could probably pick my behind off the cell floor the next morning, but he gave me a "naughty, naughty you" look, and waved me on. I guess he knew what the hurry was all about -- and fortunately, I was about the only fool headed INTO the approaching storm.

License revocation at 15 over? That's unbelievably harsh. There are parts of this state where you'll get flattened if you're not going 15 over, namely the Chicago-area interstates where the speed limit is a laughable 55.
As for the trooper being "most generous," if you were talking to me... this was on a back highway with a speed limit of 55. There's slightly more leeway there than on the interstates where the speed limit is 65 (though not much). I never go more than 74 on the interstate unless I'm passing and someone is coming up behind me at 75+. Then I'll step on it to get out of their way and over to the right lane as soon as practical. My car even has an adjustable speed warning on it that lets you know when you are exceeding the set limit. I have it set at 75.

To be fair 55 miles per hour is a RIDICULOUS speed limit for our local freeways here in PA. 65 miles per hour is much more reasonable, and it is what the general flow of traffic moves at. Does anyone know why the meager 55 is so commonplace?

Yeah, to generate revenue.
The standard excuse I hear is because the hilly/mountainous terrain throughout most of PA makes it impractical to post higher speed limits; to which I say "bullcrap" because there don't seem to be many issues with the 70mph speed limit in neighboring West Virginia. I also think part of it is because the interstate system throughout much of PA is so old that the rights-of-way are very narrow leading to narrower shoulders, meaning less run-off area in the event of an emergency.
