I agree, but the ELR is quite a bit more money, both new AND used.

I want to get one when I retire. Don't expect to drive much, so I should be able to go nearly all electric.
One has a problem with his house wiring that he blames GM for, a couple are on the 2nd gen cars, and only a couple are on the first gen cars. And no, I don't know of anyone with those issues. And I'm on the Volt forums. Most on your link gave the car 4 or 5 stars, so I'm not sure that you can call that a bad car.

Volts can be had in the $8k range now, though. But that's the 2011 and 2012 versions with higher miles and no Hold mode, so I wouldn't even look at them.

I driven an Eclipse Spyder for years, so a coupe works for me.
They're close to the same size... ELR is slightly larger.
Yup, and when they hit the end of their useful life in cars, they tend to get repurposed as battery backups for UPS systems in commercial settings.

No batteries will ever hit ‘dumps’. Way to valuable. They are and will continue to be recycled.

I think it will happen even faster then folks expect at the moment. Battery technology is rapidly increasing alongside of the autonomous capabilities. The new tesla roadster has a 620 mile range. That covers all of my daily driving, and resolves one of the biggest cons about electric vehicles.
