I would NEVER just type in a destination and off I go.

One might not always have an opportunity to research beforehand, as when a new route to a destination is needed when you are already out.

We drive these roads purposely. But, we have a capable full-size truck that has 4x4, 10 ply tires, winch, straps, air compressor, off road package and high clearance. And, DH is experience off road driver.

You can still check the route on your phone before listening completely to the GPS.

Absolutely! I pictured something else. I'll phone map my route always just to check traffic. About the only time I turn on voice is if I can't tell which turn or exit to take, and once she says "in a half mile, take exit 123 for Main Street" and back on mute she goes.

I think different people mean different things by "GPS". Some mean a dedicated unit that sits on your dash and others mean a mapping app on your cell phone.

I'll bet money the GPS didn't tell her to drive on the tracks. Surely people have tried to reproduce it. Much more likely she misread the GPS. A GPS will say "turn right, now" as you are approaching the last few yards to the intersection and it is understood by anyone with any common sense that it means turn right at the immediately upcoming road not instantaneously veer right over the curb and across the sidewalk and into a tree.

This is my guess as well.

There are many people driving this days who struggle to use good judgement in even the simplest decisions.

Unfortunately, that really hurts us locals in many of those places as the routs we would use before to get around traffic so we could get to work are now clogged with lost out of stators who now use the same backroads. So now all routs are backed up .

Right?
Sometimes we just give up and go home because we stopped talking to each other.
