I am wondering about experiences with Sam's club, Costco and discount tires which all seem to offer good prices and life time balance of tires. Which of these are the best long term source for new tires? Are their other sources that beat these?
I moved from a city where a dealer would sell me new take offs that fit my cars. No road hazard but great prices on new tires this way. No longer live in that area so need a new source

I have used both Big O and Firestone. Both have offered a credit card with no interest if paid off in 6 months, and sometimes a $100 mastercard gift card with purchase of 4 tires. I have also used Costco, but for me it's a matter of who sells the tires I want.

Check your local tire shops and see what they offer, but it doesn't really matter what store you buy your tires from, as long as you get good ones that are appropriate to the conditions you will be driving in.
Been using my dealer for tires lately. They beat anybodies price, even if the other places have tires on sale. Had wear issues on one set I bought, they replaced those for free. Nobody else around here would do that with the miles that were on them, which wasnt much, but the tires were a couple of years old.
Heard great things about Costco. I personally use TireRack and bring my rims in to a local Midas. They give me a big discount since they don't need to put my car on a lift.
I looked at them but they have very limited selection. If you have a common car and want ordinary tires the prices are good and most places have a good service reputation.
I do a lot of research into tires for any given car or truck before I choose a brand and model of tire. For my truck I want longevity, traction in snow and mud, decent ride on pavement, avoid excessive noise, affordable (ie no more than $1500 - $2000 for a set) Typically Costco or Sams/Wallmart do not carry the brand and model or size I am looking for. Too bad because 21" tires are crazy expensive.
Usually i end up buying used tires. My last set met all of my wants except longevity (since they only had about 65% tread left), but cost only $125 for four installed with balance and disposal fees etc. Makes it kind of hard to fork out $2000 for new ones. However it took six months to find them.

That disposal fee will get ya.
In my area, disposal means leaving it on a sidewalk or side of road somewhere and leaving the area quickly.
I just bought new tires for my car and my wife's car. Got Michelin Primacy ... runflats for the Caddy and regular tires for my Forester.
Costco carries Michelin, and their prices are identical to the place that I ended up buying both sets (Discount Tire). Only problem was that Costco didn't have the particular model tire that I wanted, so I did not buy them there. The only difference I could find is that Costco uses nitrogen (free), and Discount Tires uses air (78% or so nitrogen). Nitrogen is a pretty useless fad anyway.
I prefer buying tires on line from Tire Buyer.com or Tire Rack.com. My local mechanics shop will receive delivery of them, install them for a cost, discard old tires and free rotation as needed.
This is much more convenient than going to a tire place since I could have them rotated when getting an inspection,Mobil change or any other service.
Also, I can reasearch and determine the exact brand and model of tire I would like and then find it for the best price on line. Saves both time and money while getting a good tire.
