I've been trying to sell my 01 Xterra for the better part of last year, and I've only got a couple of tire kickers. I get it, it's an older truck with some miles on it, but it's solid good running suv.

Are you one of the sellers who put a sign in their window with just the phone number, nothing else? No price, no mileage, no year, nothing? Most people aren't going to call unless they are interested and how would they know without this info?
Put it on Facebook marketplace, Craigslist, Autotrader, Cars.com, etc. Post with really good pictures in good lighting, in focus, correctly composed, etc. If it's priced correctly it will sell.

I have a piece of paper taped to the windshield with every piece of info that you need to know. I have it on FB marketplace, CL, offer up with nice pics.

Can you link to the ad? Perhaps your price isn't in line with the marketplace.
Most people only care about what the car looks like
Recently I sold my car with 150k miles
the guy didn't even open the hood to check the engine, he liked it, drove it and paid what I was asking.
Make it look as clean as possible and it'll sell quick

Your price is probably too high, compare it to Kelly blue book private party value. If it's got like 250k miles or something finding a buyer could take awhile.

I agree. Give it a good wash, throw a coat of cheap wax on it and some tire shine.

No kidding. Cut the price in half, it'll sell to some sharpie by Thursday.
Who cares, the cost is already sunk. I go through this all the time, trying to buy used electronics from nerds: they seem to think that 3/4 to 7/8 retail is somehow okay on couple year old crap. Or even funnier, MORE than it's worth on closeout, new. Nuh uh.
Half retail, or even a third, stuff sells quick. Who cares, otherwise it's a paperweight anyway. A two ton paperweight, in that case.
Car Max is the final opportunity.
