I always reset mine with each fill up. My last quarter tank seems to go really fast and I use my mileage and gauge together to best guess.....also just idly curious how many miles I get betweeen fill ups.
My car has 2 so for trips I will reset one leaving the driveway (so I know exactly how far I have driven) and the other I will use for gas mileage.
I had a truck one time with a faulty gas gauge. I just used the trip odometer to tell me how close I was to empty. Truck went almost 400 miles to a tank, so I would always refill at the 350 mark.
No Never. I am not even sure how to find it. I could probably figure it out, but why? If I want to know the distance to someplace, google or Waze or Mapquest will tell me. If I want to know how many miles I can get from a tankful of gas, my truck tracks that. It is pointless to figure some average MPG. That is going to vary dramatically depending on speed, driving conditions, winter or summer gas, how much I leave it idling. It might be helpful to see how much impact towing something heavy has on MPG, but the computer figures that out after a few dozen miles. If I normally get 460 miles out of a tankful and the computer adjusts that to 300 miles I know that towing has a 25% impact on MPG.
Several cars I had in the past told me exactly what MPG I was getting. I did not even have to do any calculations. I rented a Prius for several weeks and it was fun to watch how high the MPG got at times (even thought the overall average was kind of disappointing).
I use mine on trips (since that's the name of it, LOL) - it helps me at least mentally when I know I'm getting closer to my destination (I hate driving long trips)
Did a 9 hour trip recently and used it both ways to see what kind of MPG, time etc. Just something to do I guess. Part of it through Ohio, if you were on 80 a few months back that black streak was me.
Reset B the first of every month to track my monthly driving, just because. The same reason I reset the timer the first of the month.
