I heard about a similar case on the radio yesterday where a young woman wanted to get to her boyfriends but did not have a car so she ordered a pizza and when the delivery guy came along and up to the front door she slipped out the back and into his car to take off but the only problem was it was a manual. AWKWARD...

To be fair though there are not that many manual shift cars out there so many people have never had a chance to learn on one.

Jesus. My neighbor had one of those. Poop brown color 14 inch wheels and that brownish tannish string weave tweed interior.

That’s similar to the ZF6 except on the ZF you pull all the way towards the driver then forward towards the dash. There is a good hesitation point and you gotta force it through the shift gate (that’s where most people stop thinking it doesn’t go further.
Either way manuals are going away anyway and the driverless cars are gonna guarantee that the manual transmission is going to be a relic for every day cars

YES!!! No young person has likely ever seen one of these. They’d be looking for “D” for a long long time!!

I have a restored 1967 VW convertible that I sometimes park with the top down. It’s equipped with a removable steering wheel that I can remove and stash in the locked trunk.

Add a hand choke and they would be up the creek.

My car has supercapacitors which need to be energized with a switch on the dash. You might be able to start the car and get 50ft down the road before the engine quits firing.

Plus it's a manual.

Nope. You have to be in, as far as I remember, 1st gear, then press gear shifter straight down and forward. THAT engages R. That was a bloody mess to develop a habit.

You guys are underestimating the crooks. If they can start the engine, they can find the reverse.
