Those 3500 Honda jobs lost are just the tip of the iceberg, unfortunately. When you factor in the number of auto manufacturing suppliers who will be impacted by Honda’s leaving, it will run into the tens of thousands of lost jobs in Britain.
Maybe Tesla will buy that plant and start building cars over there........Musk likes to dream big and after all he bought an old GM/Toyota plant in California to build Teslas in.
Honda said the closing has nothing to do with Brexit. It is becuase the EU is not a significant market for Honda (about 150,000 units vs. 2 million for US/China). They are also saying the same thing as GM and Ford said. They are retracting from ICE/mechanical manufacturing to focus on EVs and autonomous vehicles.
Not sure how much this is and how much of it is the mfgs realize there is a big reduction in auto sales coming up.
