I have been having cahrging issues with my 2004 nissan pathfinder. I bought a used alternator about two months ago (bad idea) when replaced started making squeling noise but it worked for about 2 weeks then had this horrible smell and then went dead it would start when jumped but wouldnt go very far. So i bought a new alternator and battery and it started but still was squeling loud when i accelerated or turned i drove it for about 25 minutes. Next day it didnt start just made clicking noise. The belt doesnt look cracked and i checked to make sure it wasnt too tight or loose. I think it could possibly be a power steering pully i had it changed but still acts up when starting car and pulling off. Cant afford to take it to shop any suggestions???

Well you need to have the battery and alternator tested. You could have some parasitic drain that’s killing the battery. The squealing could be the belt or one or more of the pulleys.

Take it to O'Reilly's auto parts store if you have one around. They will test alternator for free, and might even go further than that by taking a look at your belts.

Something to do with what is driving the alternator.

If after checking external belt tightness and still having the squealing noise and your engine has an internal belt driven water pump, the problem is the water pump going bad.
