1988 -1989 Chevy Scottsdale
I'm looking at buying a 1988 - 1989 Chevy Scottsdale, Shortbox, Stepside, 4x4, 350 engine, Two Tone paint, Roll Bar with a few small lights on it. I can't remember the miliage.
The only problem is that the dealer wants $5000 for it.
Do you guys think that it might be worth it, and why?
Thanks

Tough question, Hankidan!
Overall condition as well as mileage should dictate the price.
As a line of reference, I sold a one owner 1987 Chevy Silverado with similar equipment for $12k about three years ago . . . however, it was totally original with only a little over 100k miles on the odometer and was in immaculate condition.

Pick up trucks (especially 4WD) hold their value, because there are a lot of businesses who need them. I have seen rust bucket trucks sell for 2-3K, and I have seen 15-20 year old trucks in good condition sell for 8-9K. I have a 1985 Dodge, with 136,000 miles on it, with NO options (not even A/C), 6 cylinder, granny 4 speed manual transmission, but the body is in PERFECT shape, no rust at all, so its worth around 3000.
Around 3 years ago, I looked at a 1986 GMC, with 66000 miles (or so the dealer said, a lot of those trucks only have a 5 digit odo), but it was pretty rusted from sitting. They wanted 2750 for it. I know the 1986 model is WAY different than the 1988 model; and the '88 model is a lot nicer and more modern, and is in high demand.

thanks for the answers guys,
the truck is in good to excellant condition, and I hope to find out the miles tommorrow.
it also has two gas tanks, and i'd guess 33"-35" tires, and is lifted about 4"-6" total.
