The vehicles higher ground clearance in the lower roof make it more difficult to climb into. The rear seat sits low and doesn’t provide adequate thigh support. The interior feels bland, bordering on cheap, making it worse by hard plastic trim. Visibility out of the windshield into the sides it is good, but the thick rear pillars create significant blindspots.”

Harsh over bumps, translated in real world terms typically means less lean in corners and handles better. While a cloud soft ride is nice, excessive leaning in turns and fearing the car will flip in a hard turn or correction at high speeds is not a good feeling.
Now for a noisy engine and clunk 8spd auto, is another issue. To me Direct Injected engines just seem noisier than Port Injected to me so far.
The engine and transmission are the same ones used in the Camry. The clunk is largely when coming to a ‘rolling stop’ and then hitting the gas again, I experienced it in a 2018 Camry loaner I had once. I believe Toyota will likely have to issue a software update to remedy it.
Seems reaching for criteria to measure, heavily subjective, and for some people, could not care less about.
Engine noise? It is a damn RAV4, not a GX460. Plus, they miss the entire point of Toyota, its dependability, thus will suffer in other areas.
Note, not a Toyota fan, never owed one, but these articles like this just irk me. It is like saying your F-18 suffers in comfort compared to the first class seat in the A380, yea, because that is not its priority nor intent.
Edit; but will admit, I rented a 2014 Ford Edge once, and they were on point with that POS.
I’ve never driven anything with a 4cyl that didn’t have a noisy engine, no matter the brand.
Disagree, I've driven a lot of 4 and 6 cylinder and many such as GM inline 6 are noisy and unexceptional power. It's also subjective, you may think the S2000 engine is noisy but that 8000RPM whine is close to a F1 race car.
It's Consumer Reports. Who relies on them anymore?
