Anyone using Mobil 1 Extended Performance engine oil? It's the one year or 15,000 miles stuff.

General Motors recommends Mobil 1 in my Truck and I've used the Extended Performance one time. Since I only drive it about 3k miles a year, there's no real need for the longer life.

Why do you ask, mm?

Just about any oil needs to be changed once a year so you don't get much from extended life oils when you drive few miles. I maintain several cars that are driven less than 5000 miles a year and just do an annual change using a quality conventional motor oil.

My thinking as well, cdelena!

Besides, the cost of an oil change is far less expensive than engine repairs and aggravation.

Mobil 1 Extended Performance

Yes, I use Mobil 1 Extended Performance. I get it at Walmart for around $26 for the 5-qt jug. Change oil once a year, even though all I have been driving is usually 7000-8000 miles. (and it's probably going to be even less, considering the price of gas these days) ($4.02 lately) I think that oil is one of the best on the market. Sure it costs more, but that is a "so what" kind of deal...compared to the $25K-$30K price of a new car, it is of no significance...

Bud

I too have been using the Mobile 1 Extended Performance, and like BudinAk I bought it at Wal-Mart, I've been using it for about a year now in my pickup truck and just recently made a round trip back east of over 1000 miles and will have put close to 15,000 miles on my truck for this time span. I've been using Mobil 1 products for quite a long time and I think that they're synthetic oils are one of the best products on the market now, my pickup truck is about due for an oil change and I will continue to use the Mobil 1 extended performance oil.

Mobil 1 is a great product, but I've never bought into the whole extended life oil crap. Oil gets dirty and whether or not the oil has the ability to work well that long, that dirt and gunk is harmful to your engine in the long run.

I would agree with you on the dirty oil, but what I usually do is just change the filter about every 3000 to 3500 miles and add enough oil to bring it up to the recommended level, which is usually just about a quart and then do a full oil change and filter once a year.
