Personally I don't see where there is going to be a problem, you're over 18yrs of age, do you have a valid drivers license? We don't have checkpoints at State Lines in this country, so you should be free to drive wherever you want as long as you abide by the rules. Have a good and safe trip.

ive never had a problem. as long as the rental company allows it and you are licensed to drive, you should be fine

A lot of rental companies will not rent cars if you are under 21. Between 21 and 25 you will be charged extra premium and again it depends on company.

As long as you have a drivers license. It isn't like Mexico where you get stopped at toll booths every damn mile-- Kilometer for that matter.

If the car rental company says OK you can. Nobody inspects you when you cross a state line here. You just keep driving and not even slow down.

Some rental car companies will not rent to someone under 25 years of age. Find one that will. At the rental car counters most will NOT accept a debit card even IF it is a Visa or Mastercard. It MUST be solely a credit card.
Crossing state lines:
If you rent it and at the time of rental put down a pick-up location and then give a different return location and it is in a different state it is fine. HOWEVER, there are SOME car rental companies that WILL NOT let you drive it across state lines. We have rented a minivan before during ski season to drive from Texas to Colorado and some companies will not allow it. It will say specifically in their contract. We have also rented in say California and traveled to Nevada (crossed state lines several times a day around Lake Tahoe) and that is fine. Rented in North Carolina and returned rental car in Florida. Just depends on the rental car company and what they allow. There may be an extra fee attached for a one way rental.

just to expand on this as a recent renter for a multistate trip:
Enterprise in southern california will allow you to go to Arizona and Nevada.
National/Alamo will allow you to travel anywhere in the US with no mileage limits.
I would definitely verify any mileage charges before you go as well. I don't think any major companies charge mileage anymore, but you never know.
