At current gas prices in CA (3.80 / Gal.) it will cost someone who's vehicle gets 12 mpg over $30,000 in fuel to drive 100,000 mi.

At national average of 13500 mi per year thats $11.09 a day. Some people spend that much in tips.

If an Escalade with a 25-gallon gas tank and fuel economy of 12 mpg leaves on a 150 mile trip, and a Prius with a 12-gallon gas tank and fuel economy of 62 mpg leaves on a 210 mile trip, which driver will experience the widest difference between how smug they feel when driving with the contempt felt by other drivers toward them?

1) Who drives 100,000 miles per year?

2) Most people get better than 12 mpg.

2 - Probably more people getting around 12 mph than you think. Looking out of my office window now, I see 6 (out of 17) vehicles that get around 12 mpg in city driving.

I a 1991 Dodge Dakota and in the city I got 7.8 Mpg average. Then when it came to highway it was more around 12-14. I had that truck for 6 months and put 13,000 miles on it. My current car gets around 24 average. Which is ok.

Is that all you're getting? That seems awfully low, what engine do you have in it? I had a 1993 Dodge Dakota with the 3.9 Litre V6, regular cab, manual 5 speed tranny, and I got about 24 MPG on the highway. My 2005 Dodge Dakota, with the 3.7 Litre V6, extended cab, and an automatic transmission, gets about 21 MPG on the highway.

I spend between $150 and $170 a month for gasoline, so in a year, I would spend around a little over $2000.

12 MPG CITY DRIVING---------The way I figure city driving you can average about 20 MPH to cover 100000 mi a year at that you would have to drive 24 hrs a day for 208 days.If you take out 104 days for weekends you could take 44 vacation days. You would need it.
