I am sick of seeing non stop tv commercials for the "CARSHIELD" repair insurance. Has anyone had real dealings with them and actually got thousands of dollars of repairs FREE? I smell scam.
I heard on Car Pro radio program they definitely are a scam. And they advertise constantly.Good luck getting a cent out of them if you file a claim. They will have a reason you weren't covered for whatever was done. When you go to pick up your car from the mechanic after getting it repaired the mechanic is going to demand payment or no keys and no car. He doesn't care if you have Car Shield.
The other thing they do is collect a whole bunch of money for polcys and then go out of business.
I know there are several Ford dealers in the US selling Ford Extended Warranties far below the cost the average Ford dealer wants. I can only assume the same exists for other brands. Check them out before considering a 3rd party warranty seller.
I have car repair insurance, just not carshield. Paid $2000 for three year coverage when I bought a nice Expedition with 100,000 miles on it. Their brochure seems comprehensive but not really. I had a bunch of fluid leaks, hoses, belts etc. but they only paid for the water pump. I told the mechanic up front that I have insurance. He called them and deducted the cost of the water pump up front. I assume he'll get reimbursed for it. I suspect other shops may not bother. In another case, I had an engine miss costing me big time but they didn't pay. I just wanted to be covered for big ticket items, like transmission etc. I suspect they would cover those.

For most of these 3rd party warranties, the fine print keeps them from paying claims. Note the sentence: "....are covered ONLY if damage is caused by a FAILURE of any internally lubricated part within the Engine." The same applies to the transmission. Their inspector will probably make that determination, after your mechanic has charged you a few hundred to take it apart.

Well... I'm pretty sure Ice-T and Chris Berman can afford to fix their cars.
Need to know anything else?

Perhaps, but I figured in light of something like transmission failure at 100,000 miles, it was good insurance. I am just happy somebody answered the phone!
They have a lot of complaints on BBB and Consumer Affairs. Car Shield sells the warranty, but it's administered by some other company, and apparently, they find every reason to say repairs aren't qualified for coverage. You also have to put a certain amount of miles on the car from the time you buy the warranty before anything is covered. I think it was 500.
"THEY REPLACED AN ENGINE AND A TRANSMISSION.....WHO DOES THAT?????"
Most likely no one.....
As for advertising, they appear to be making tons of money to run constant ads to make more money.
