Barrett-Jackson
Anyone here into cars?
My favorite event in the world is coming up in a couple weeks, the Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction (www.barrett-jackson.com) (broken link). I believe SpeedTV is carrying the auction again this year but there's nothing like being there in person.
I have my eye on 4 cars that I'll need to restrain myself from buying:
1968 Yenko Camaro ...but I couldn't afford it anyway
1970 HEMI 'Cuda "drool.."
1969 Camaro Z/28 RS Coupe ...a bit more realistic
1969 GTO Judge Hardtop
I have my line of credit and I'm ready to buy ...now how do I explain spending $200,000 on a car to my bank....hmmm

I'd be looking for a nice little 66 GTO if I was going to be there which, sadly, I'm not. I'd also be inclined to look for a 66 Caprice for the wife to even things out a bit. Love those body styles!

What a great thread!! My husband & I have watched Barrett-Jackson for years, & we always make sure we clear that weekend (this year it's 6 days) of any plans so we can watch in peace. He's even been watching last year's auction reruns for the past couple of days on SpeedTV.
If I had a money tree (or trees!) in the backyard, this year I'd go for Lot 1311 -- the 1930 Duesenberg. I'm more into cars from the late 1920's & early to mid 1930s, and also Exotics, but he's your typical Muscle Car lover.

Im into cars BIG TIME, but never understood the muscle car scene. I dont understand how a car with 502ci and 500hp only runs low 13s. Oh yeah, power-to-weight ratio. j/k I know everyone is entitled to their opinions, but paying 100K and up for a Yenko is downright stupid. You can find FAR better cars for 1/2 the price that will grind that Camaro into the pavement. Heck, the SRT-4 almost runs the same 1320, but for 20 grand and with 4 cylinders.
Barrett-Jackson is overrated. There is too much drama in that place, on too large a scale. There are some definite gems in the roster of course, but if you want truly unique cars that arent done by the likes of Caroll Shelby or Boyd Coddington or Chip Foose, steer clear of that place. There are far better auctions out there, its sad the world only recognizes B-J.

You can buy replicas of Elanor, you know. Are they worth the money? No. But if you think thats a great lookin Shelby, youll be willing to cough up the cash (I forget the exact price range, but I believe theyre about 80K).

Check out this website for classic cars - http://www.gatewayclassiccars.com/
I have visited the showroom here in Charlotte twice. Both times I felt like crying. I had a 69 GTO, and a 72 Cuda growing up.

I have a 1970 340 Duster, 4 speed, 3.55 dana and AM radio. Manual steering and brakes. The car has 56000 miles on it and I've owned it since 1974. The only things not stock are headers, flowmasters, accel dual point distributor and mallory coil. I did the heads two years ago. The car has run 13.9 @ 103 mph on 8.50 slicks, not to shabby for a basically stock small block and a car that weighs nearly 3500 lbs with gas and driver. I like the cars you mentioned but if I had my choice there would be a 1964 427 Shelby Cobra sitting in my garage If your looking to spend 200K I've got a deal for you. I'll sell you my Duster for 100K which leaves you with a 100K savings . Good luck in your quest! My other toy right now is a '05 Road King and I am very close to starting a new motorcycle build. I think I'm going with an old style bobber. I'll post pictures when I decide.
