Oil test. 120,000 rough miles rings, direct injection engine durability test. So what did the engine breakdown reveal?
Actually this test speaks very highly of today's engine oils. Here is a very impressive 12 minute video of an engine oil that gives engines 300,000 mile plus potential. Direct injection, oil rings, bearing wear no problems The rod bearing kept new engine specs after 120,000 hard miles.
Me too, but I change it every 200 miles and it always looks clean.
Oh yeah?! My brother in law has a 55 gallon drum of it mounted in his trunk and thus never recirculates any oil at all. It only runs through once. When the drum is empty, he's done driving for the day.
What the hell? Change the oil every 100 miles? 200 miles? An entire drum of oil in the trunk? Is everybody insane?
When I buy a car the very first thing I do is to change out the oil pan with an aftermarket one that doesn't have a drain plug. I then fill the engine up with Supertech oil from Walmart and laugh my ass of at all of the people waiting in line at the oil change places that I drive past every day.
If what you guys do makes you feel better, then by all means keep doing it. For me, I'd rather pay once for the oil pan with no plug, and then spend the rest of my time rocking back and forth laughing and counting my money.
How about "changing" the oil at every gas stop? Works (or worked) for me.
78 Bronco with a slightly bent timing cover.
Worked on a sportfisher with a pair of big diesels.
Instead of getting rid of the oil the "normal" way on the boats oil changes, I just kept the 5 gallon buckets of used oil in my house with one always in back of the Bronco!
Every gas stop, I'd climb up under the hood with a 5 gallon bucket and just poured it into the oil fill! No need to check, just fill as it would be needing more in a little bit as gas stops were quite often with a 400cid Bronco as a daily driver!
Only caught fire once, but my shirt put it out. The gas station attendent was either too lazy to get the fire extinguisher or really didn't know where it was. As flames were coming from the top of my motor at the pump!

I bet his motor will last at least a quintillion miles if he uses synthetic oil and ocassionally adds a bottle of STP.
