Then the small business owner that has the 1 vehicle he uses to operate a business to support his family AND be their mode of transportation.

Go ahead and let them charge even MORE than they already do for people that MUST have a large truck/vehicle to operate a business. We ALREADY DO PAY OUT THE NOSE! All it will do is increase the prices on EVERYTHING you buy and consume.

Somehow all of these companies survived and deliveries were made BEFORE SUV's were common....before the term "SUV" was even around.

So now outside salespeople "need" SUV's? Huh? My father worked in outside sales for a manufacturer most of his life and always had mid-sized sedans as a company vehicle. Now all of a sudden salespeople need Durangos and Yukons?

You get 22 mpg in a Suburban? Doubt it. Plus, even if you do, it isn't better than an Accord. I get 32 mpg in my Accord, and my wife's Corolla gets 38 mpg on the highway and 31 in the city. And I also doubt a new Accord was "belching" smoke....my Accord has 111,000 miles and runs like new....never anything wrong other than ordinary maintenance. And despite driving fuel-efficient 4-cylinders, I also carpool to work.

How far back would you like to go...

In the 50's the Willy's 4WD wagon was always a ranch favorite as was the Jeep Wagoneer's back in the early 60's...

The Chevrolet Suburban goes back to 1936 and the forest service bought a lot of Dodge Power Wagons.

Your right and a lot probably has to do with marketing...

Go to any California ski resort and half the cars seem to be all wheel drives or SUV's

Sales people today are also all about image...

I've followed this thread and I still can't see the connection between someone driving the kids to soccer practice in a Chevrolet Tahoe and Treason, a high crime punishable by death....

Nope baby. Try HEAVY industrial supplies. Ain't gonna fit in no corolla or camry. Besides having an SUV means I can make ONE TRIP to take the kids to school and then be able to head straight for the office. I guess in order to please you I should double back home, get out of the Suburban, get into a truck and THEN drive to the office. Talk about WASTE! That would DOUBLE the miles I drive daily. Oh, and YES I do in fact get 22 mpg in my Suburban. And YES, that WAS a fairly new Honda Accord (dark grey in color w/ the gas lid OPEN) belching grey smoke in front of me. Sorry, there are indeed people that drive those cars that DO NOT change the oil and filters.

And as Ultrarunner said, they DO go back DECADES!

Hey Krusty.....Where do you figure they got the name for the Suburban?

People that work on a ranch usually drive an old Dodge pickup with a diesel engine. Suburbans aren't made for real work.
