Some of the highest mileage engines I have ever seen have been 460 Ford v8s. The 429/460 Ford engines are the best.

Wrong, but no surprise...

if one gets their info from mags and not experience...

well...

ahh...

it is no use with this one.

You really are in denial!
Anyone who thinks that the '50s-'70s VW Beetle (along with the Bus) are not underpowered must be comparing their power output to a lawn mower!

I have observed how slow they are. When I was in the unfortunate position of being behind them. Their engines are making all sorts of noise trying to keep up with traffic (usually failing) and I pass them, as do the other motorists.

You do realize that the top speed of those things are in the 70 and 80 mph bracket? My cars can do that in 2nd gear!

Acceleration figures of this nature are generally not subjective. We can make billions of true statements without having to experience them.

All that means is that 25 million underpowered engines were made!

There are other engines just as rugged (like the Mopar slant-six and Ford six-cylinder) but you don't have to worry about being rear-ended when going up a freeway on-ramp.

20-30 seconds to 60 mph is not a true statement. At least not for the late 60's on. Try and prove that.

Any discussion of the best engines has to include the VW air-cooled engine, no matter how underpowered narrow minded land yacht lovers think they are.

How can it be proved when you don't believe magazine road tests?

What do you think the figure is? 19.9 seconds?

Show me the proof Fleet.

My buddy's '68 could dang near keep up to my '78 Rabbit with just an after market muffler, so less than 10 seconds for sure.

But, that is beside the point. The engine is a great engine that is has lasted the test of time.

Where is your beloved 500 ci Cadillac motor now?
