The GM corporate 350 V-8 in my '92 Buick Wagon. It has 180k miles on it and still runs fine even if all the oil seals have been replaced with solidified sludge.

I'll also vote for either the 300 I-6 from Ford. My in-laws drove their van to Alaska every summer from Connecticut for 8 years with this engine. I converted it from electronic ignition with a scrap distributor because it was much more reliable then the magic box.

Let us not forget the original 1200 cc VW four. This thing lasted forever because it did not make any perceptible horsepower. it was also very easy to work on in a frustrating quest for more torque. Yeah, I am dating myself. BTW - It is still being made in Brazil to run on straight vodka.

The 350 small block. I've had two and neither one have let me down.

I would also like to induct the Z24 2.4L 4 cylinder engine that came in the old Nissan 720 and hardbody pick-ups. Very tough engines in my experience.

I like Toyota's R22 engine. I know someone that had over 400,000 miles on this engine. I wonder if Toyota's still making them?

The VW air cooled Beetle engines. They were durable, economical, could be rebuilt an infinite number of times, and very easy to understand and maintain.

Nissan GA16E/DE series, and Nissan KA24E/DE series. I've owned a couple of cars powered by both and they've all gotten up to or past 200,000 miles with no issues whatsoever. My mother's Sentra with the GA16 got to 289,000 before an electrical issue forced her to get rid of it.

The Nissan RB series, and specifically RP-26DETT is worthy of a mention.
