thx for the link! i cant find the mpg in the article tho
I believe the previous ones were like 32/34 mpg something in that area. I wasn't paying attention to the MPG on the automatic because I prefer a manual and they do get better gas mileage assuming you drive reasonably.
This thread, ladies and gentlemen, presents the good side of higher gas prices. Conservation of fuel by switching to a more economical/efficient vehicle is a very good thing.
Also on the topic of the thread, I recommend the Nissan Versa. It is very spacious inside and has ample storage space in the rear. Although I can't compare to the Fit (As I've never driven one), I can assure you that the Versa is a smart purchase.

What you say about the Versa seems to be backed up by what I have read. They also say that its a little more roomy then the Honday Fit. Thats important when your driving something that small. It also is a 6 speed which is nice as well.
I feel fortunate that my life is to the place I no longer need alot of room in the car. My daughter is 11 so no more lugging around portable cribs, strollers and other baby paraphenilia.
Have you checked out the Pontiac Vibe? It's basically a rebadged Toyota Matrix, but looks better IMO. It's a four door hatchback but it looks sporty, not wimpy like the Fit. LOL
The Vibe is a Japanese hatchback. If you just have to have a Japanese badge on your car to validate your preference for a Japanese hatchback, get the Toyota Matrix version instead.
After reading over Consumer Reports as was suggested earlier in the thread and various other articles, I am looking at either the Honda Fit or the Nissan Versa. They are exactly what I am looking for and in the right price range as well as coming highly rated by CR.
My husband downsized from a Durango, we LOVED it! We went to a Ford Escape and absolutely love that as well. We get very good gas mileage w/ that. I have a brand new PT Cruiser which is 4 cylinders and my Dr. said I couldn't drive anymore so we have 2 cars so now it's cheaper for my husband to drive my car as far as gas goes, so when we go to like Home Depot or something we take his car, but groceries or when he goes to work he uses my car since it's cheaper. Escape was a great SUV choice for us after test driving all the others on his list.
i think the old Fit was around 36mpg. the article made in sound like mileage wouldnt change too much since it didnt gain much weight and they sloped the windshild a bit more
