Post News, 100 mpg? For 'hypermilers,' that sounds about right.

GILBERT, Ariz. — After a 29-mile jaunt from his Phoenix office to his home here, Louis Hudgin proclaimed his gas mileage "pitiful."

He averaged just 88.3 miles per gallon.

I tried only one thing that they said and that was cruising in neutral more often. etc. It does work.

+1 for that! The only problem is that there are still too many people out there who think it is cool to go as fast as possible between red lights. Then they complain incessantly about gas prices and gas mileage. ::sigh:: When will they learn?

And in Miami they add stop signs to every corner to "slow people down". Watch how much your mileage decreases then.

They definitely have some positive things.

However, turning the car off while coasting, and shifting into neutral can be very dangerous if you need to move your vehicle quickly out of the way.

Obviously you have to be careful. There are always hazards with anything you do inside or outside a car.

Another thing I've done is travel at 57-61 mph on the interstate instead of the 65 we have here in Wisconsin. I've noticed on my morning commute, people are slowing down alot more. I see the same group of cars every morning traveling at the same speeds etc. Some follow me so fly past me. I've noticed about 40-60 more miles per tank full.

+1

Turning a car off, while it is moving, is just crazy. Driving is dangerous enough without pulling stunts like this.

Somebody should really get these freaks off the road. Driving extraordinarily slowly on the interstate is DANGEROUS. Trying to time the red lights, and subsequently changing your speeds or whatnot, is downright dangerous to other drivers. Turning the A/C off? Well okay, that's reasonable unless it's so hot out that you're going to pass out.

Bottom line is, if these people are *that* concerned about MPGs that they're willing to put the general public in danger (not slowing down around curves could be disastrous for a pedestrian), then they need to, oh, I don't know, NOT DRIVE. Fark's sake, you're saving four bucks a week! I'll get a collection going if you're that hard up. But if you're really that hard up, you'll walk or bike or take public transport, not drive.

fair enough many of their stunts are dangerous but if everyone drove as slow as they do, there would be fewer deaths on the road
