Default SmartCar

Has anyone here purchased a SmartCar? I'd love to find out what you think about it. I'm wanting to buy one very much, but since they are new, I am waiting until I find out more about it.

Please share.

I've followed the progress of the car for several years and looked at it at dealers. I think it's WAY overpriced and underperforming and according to some it doesn't even get nearly as good mileage as one would expect.

At it's current price it's a novelty not a serious purchase. Now if it were cheaper, considerably cheaper, then it might be a serious product.

You know what it sounds like when a bug hits your windshield? Just imagine that feeling. Cute car and very unique and appealing. But when someones dog is bigger than your car it can be intimidating.

God point I have seen two driving around by me, and a large sedan could easily destroy one of those in a crash much less an SUV

I agree. My uncle bought one, gets 40-42 mpg, which is good, but not incredible. If you want a serious gas saver, look to the Honda Insight over the Smart.

My neighbor was able to borrow one for three days and it was an eyeopener.... first he had to come over to borrow my car to take his wife and kids to dinner, the next day we stopped at Home Depot to pickup something for a project but we had to leave it because it would not fit in the car... his wife decided it was too small to take to Costco for shopping.

He was happy to return it and get his own car back.

I'll admit that they look delicate because of their size, however, the tridion safety cell that surrounds the seating compartment has proven itself in crash tests as being infinitely more survivable that larger vehicles without this advanced technology. There is a very impressive video on youtube.com if you are interested.

Okay it did get good crash ratings but when he said the drivers head lines up with the top of the hood of an SUV, thats a little to close for my comfort.
