I know the general feeling of how you guys and gals feel about the Aveo! GM made the decision not to rebadge it as a Pontiac G3. Thank God!!! Don't you think this rebadging is being over done?

Motor Authority » Update: Pontiac G3 likely ruled out for U.S.

I agree, brikag . . . rebadging has been "Beaten To Death" by all of the Automakers.

I don't understand the logic behind this one, though, as fuel-efficient cars are in huge demand (though the bigger Honda Civic does just as well).

We don't need the LeMans disaster of the late 80's again.

Well this one is easy: The Daewoo thingy being rebadged as an Aveo is a rolling heap of crap. Fuel efficiency is only worth so much if your savings get eaten up by constant nickel-and-dime repair costs.

I realize it's a rolling heap of crap, but from a pure business perspective, why would they not want it to be sold when Pontiac dealers are sorely starved for fuel-efficient cars? It's not like their G5 is that much more reliable, you could hardly tarnish their reputation any more.

One, the G5 is a lot more reliable than the Aveo; two, Pontiac is not really known as their "efficiency" division -- not a lot of people are shopping a Pontiac dealer for fuel-efficiency. It doesn't fit well with the "excitement" marketing of the Pontiac division. That doesn't mean every Pontiac has to be a gas hog, but trying to wedge a conscientiously fuel-efficient car into that marketing environment is just not a good fit. If they can market fuel efficiency AND "excitement," great. But that's enough of a stretch as it is for the G5, it's outright laughable with an Aveo equivalent.
