Why don't they just merge!?!?! (vehicles, joint, German, Japanese)

First they announced a joint collaberation on full-size trucks. Now it's a mid-size car for Chrysler and Nissan to be built! GM and Toyota hasn't done it yet. So why should this be different? With the low stock prices, would it be a bargain or liability?
I think if Nissan and Chrysler merged it would be a deathknoll for Nissan. Chrysler has not put anything innovative on the market since their 1993 "cab forward" design Dodge intrepid and Chrysler Concorde, and has been losing money for decades with not so great designs and quality (the 300C is nice, but the interior is atrocious). Nissan has strengthened itself (with the help of Renault) to get out of the red and become profitable. They have also introduced many innovations create designs that are popular among people, as well as being ahead of the curve on customer demands and trends.
I cannot see anything positive out of a merge deal on Nissan's side, though Chrysler would definatly reap benefits. One of the American companies will fold, and Chrysler will probably be it.
Why punish Nissan... or...Toyota for that matter. What have they done wrong.
Remember Chrysler nearly took Mercedes Benz down the tubes. M.B. walked away from that deal paying whatever it cost.
If you want G.M. and Ford to do better, Fire all of the Mid and Upper management types and hire Japanese to run the companies!!!!
At least the Japanese know which way is UP.
I have to disagree there.........remember that DaimlerBenz AG took over Chrysler back in ca. 1997----and let go of it almost exactly 10 years later.
For the record: Consumer Reports magazine has slammed virtually every Mercedes product for years now due to their dismal reliability-------whereas, they praise almost every one else.
Allow me to say that, Consumers Reports has an apparent agenda. (Why I don't know).
For countless years, they have done nothing but SLAM Mercedes Benz. that's all well and good, But I own a Benz (and a B.M.W.), and find that owners LOVE them.
Mercedes Benz is also able to boast of having a strong repeat customer base.
If M.B. was SOOOOO bad, why do I and others keep coming back. They certainly don't give them away!!!
Now consider G.M. and Ford, They DO just about give them away, and still few takers.
I wonder how Consumers Reports comes to grips with this discrepancy.

Simple. When they slam cars you like they're biased. Who's less biased, Motor Trend, Car & Driver, Hot Rod or some other industry rag that's 75% ads?

Because fashion is more important to fashion queens than reliability. They'll put up with just about anything to appear stylish.

What discrepancy? Ford & GM have been making unreliable crap for years.
I believe that merging and seperating and buying should not be on the agenda for any car company, American, Japanese, German, or Korean. They need to improve what they already have (this goes for the Detroit 3) and get out of the red. For instance, Chrysler currently has nothing that gets really good MPG that people WANT to drive. The only cars that have ever stuck out to me that Chrysler builds is the 300 and the mini vans. Their Jeep Group is trying hard to recover but is having a very hard time with it because nothing gets very good MPG. I also believe that Chrysler has very poor leadership, all of the people that are running Chrysler are all millionare CEO's that came from other companies such as the Home Depot. Can't they bring in some people that are serious about turning around the company!!
As for the Ford leadership, it's a big joke!! CEO Alan Mulally takes a jet from Dearborn, MI to his home in Florida for the weekend. And then gets flown back to Dearborn during the start of the work week. This costs Ford $3 Million dollars a year!! When the blue collar worker is being offered buyouts, or just getting their job cut all together. I'm sure that all free airline tickets a year and the CEO's huge yearly pay will turn Ford back to profitablility in the years to come.

As oil continues to go up at least Chrysler and GM will go under, possibly all 3. And to think GM could have been the world leader in electric vehicles but Bob Lutz's ossified mind could only understand the SUV business model and saw EVs as a threat which guarantees that GM will become extinct like the dinosaur that it is. But, such is evolution. Nimbler, more able competitors will take their place. What a pity. For the workers if not the car buying public.
