The battery in my 76 Maverick is 6 1/2 years old and by the Hydrometer, still has 80 % capacity.
I fill the water twice a year and once a year take it out for a full charge. Of course i have no parasitic drains! I also keep the top and cables clean. The last battery i had in my 79 T-Bird lasted an unbelievable 9 years with that type of care. And it was a Wal-Mart ( made by Johnson Controls).
The batt in the Mav is an Interstate also made by Johnson Controls.

I think it varies greatly on operating conditions. I would think batteries exposed to extreme weather conditions would die faster than batteries that are not. I recently had to replace my factory car battery on my Honda Civic, it lasted 7 1/2 years. My car has been garage kept for the last 4 years, I'm sure that helped a little.

If 2 years is the norm with batteries made nowadays, it looks like replacement time is coming up again..
I had a '95 Mazda Protege that had a battery (second one; the original one had to be replaced after four years) that lasted 10 years. When I replaced that battery, I was advised to replace it after five years regardless. Seems reasonable to me.

My original battery on our 2008 Subaru Impreza 2.5i lasted 72,000 miles and 3 and a half years. We'll see how long this new Duralast battery will last on it.

Well I live in Florida and the heat shortens battery life significantly.

I just replaced the battery on my wife's Miata after just under 2 years.

The good news is that it had a 2 year warranty on it from Walmart, so they replaced it with a heavy duty battery for free since they no longer carry the one I had
