Post 1983 S-10 Blazer Exhaust System

Hello all, thinkin about buyin a truck (S-10 Blazer) but turns out it needs some exhaust work . It needs work (possibly redone) from the catalytic converter back. Just wondering if anyone has a diagram of the exhaust system that I could use as a reference. If you could upload it that'd be great. And guys, do you think it's worth the trouble?? And assuming I had someone do it for me, how much do you think it might cost?? Thanks guys

The Denver Public Library has that information in their "Database Research Resources". If you are a member, any resident of the state can get a card, you can access it free online, or go to a branch and access the info.

"Automotive repair manuals from the Chilton Total Car Care Series, plus illustrated auto repair manuals covering 21,000 vehicles; Technical Service Bulletins; wiring diagrams; and labor time estimates"

Yes, the library has information for all people---a good resources from the tax dollars we pay.

I have a wiring schematic of a 1969 Volvo; Will that work?

Go to LMCtruck.com. They sell brand new pre bent exhaust systems for S-10's and S-10 Blazers. Buy the kit and have an exhaust shop weld it/fit it together for you.

Or just pay an exhaust shop to custom fab you up an exhaust. They have the tools and know how.

How much will it cost....? Well that I cannot answer....but if I were a betting man I'd say count on $150-$200 if you want a single exhaust and a standard OE muffler, and upwards of $350 if you want a custom exhaust.

I spent $300 getting a new hi flow catalytic converter, Flowmaster muffler, 2.5 inch aluminized pipe + labor for the exhaust shop to replace my exhaust. That was 8 years ago. And it was a single exhaust.

If the truck is otherwise in good shape and you can get it for a fair price, I wouldn't think the exhaust work would be a big deal.

Which engine/transmission does it have, have you checked it out otherwise?

A rusted out exhaust may be a sign of the truck being used for a lot of short trips, which tends to sludge the engine. Take a look inside the valve cover, look at the inside of the oil filler cap. Some sludge is to be expected but not excessive. If you don't know what it should look like, get someone who does to look with you.

Overall, these are pretty simple, reliable trucks, and are not that bad on gas. The 4-bangers and one of the V-6 engines are pretty down on power though.

Yep, the only power house engines these trucks ever had were the turbo 4.3 (rare, only found in Syclone/Typhoons) or the center port injection 4.3 or the 1996-up 4.3, the 2.8's and all of the 4 cylinder models were not much for power, thanks to GM for putting a FWD engine in a vehicle never intended for it. The 4.3 didn't come out until '88 so it's most likely one of the doggy engines.
