Why do you prefer rear wheel drive to front wheel drive? (luxury car, CV)

I was wondering why some people are so adamant about rear wheel drive? I guess for the bigger luxury cars like Cadillac and Lincoln they provide a better ride? I don't know...
Supposedly better handling but in the real world with snow, ice, rain FWD wins. I used to live on a hill. Every winter when I was shoveling the snow I would watch $50k MBs, BMWs, etc. spinning out while Civics leave them in the dust (or slush).
I have driven both and four-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive, as far as the difference in the ride goes I don't necessarily think it has to do as to whether it's front wheel drive or rear wheel drive, I think it has more to do with the suspension, however the only problem I see with front wheel drive is a little thing called to torque steer, other than that little problem, under certain conditions I prefer front wheel drive.

Generally a more robust/heavy duty setup. I also prefer solid axles to any CV system, the sky is the limit with how bullet proof you can make a FR layout. Not to mention longitudinal engines make perfect sense.

My opinion: Rear wheel drive cars have better weight balance, better handling on slick pavement and snowy roads (more controllable), and generally, a better road feel. I don't like the "dead" feel from the rear of the car, with FWD.
Having said that, I've had several front wheel drive cars, as well as many rear wheel drive cars. The other day I drove ~150 miles in basically blizzard conditions in one of my RWD cars. While the car didn't get great traction leaving a dead stop as well as a front wheel drive car would, I never feared losing the rear end like FWD cars have a habit of doing in the snow and ice. In fact, it was a nice drive. I also used the rear wheel drive to enhance a couple of turns.
Never have and never will own one. Either RWD or AWD. I like the handling too much.
