You don't see them in Japan, ever. Well, hardly ever.

Know why? The car exam. After a while, it's not worth it to fix all that crap. They just buy a new car.

Shaken (Car Inspection - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)

Check out the "End of Shaken period".

I think I saw one old car when I was there and it was in a magazine. They guy kept it and drove it like once a year. When I was there I was told that after 7 years, they just get a new car. The old one gets folded back into sheetmetal and plastic and it becomes a new car.

And let's not even talk about finding parts for an old car. My car needed a muffler and a catalytic convertor. The junkyard wanted like 300 bucks for the muffler and 900 for the catalytic convertor.
The dude I bought it from had "tuned it" with a resonator and a different muffler. I had paid $1600 bucks for it, used. I junked it. I had to pay to junk it. I think it was $100 bucks, but it's been a long time.In the U.S., the junkyard pays you for the car. The junkyard said it was because they had no space. Interesting, no?

Ok, this is a Honda bashing thread

BTW, 6 million Honda owners are getting mails for a class action settlement for this one
I'm not a Honda fan, but that doesn't really make sense. As a driver, I think I would notice if my Honda was racking up more miles that I actually drove.

I have a Corolla that the odometer reads slow. On those measured miles on the highway....it only clicks over 9/10s of a mile. It's bone stock with the OEM tires....go figure.

This is pretty old. I drive a 2007 Civic Si Coupe. 10,000 miles in two years. I plan to own it another six years or another 30,000 miles. I guess I'll only have 39,215 miles when I go to sell it or retire it to second string instead of 40,000. Big deal.

It's not really boring. I've got 235/40-18s, lowered HFP suspension, short ram intake, and Hondata reflash. Revving it to 8600 is a kick and it's one of the best handling front wheel drive cars ever available...

I wish it only had two seats but whenever it comes up I just lie and tell people it's a two-seater. It doesn't look like a garden-variety Civic in black with the Axis wheels, HFP aero pieces, and dark tint so I usually get away with it.

I had a honda once and the engine lasted forever, but the door panels, the interior, the sunroof, the seats, pretty much everything was cheap and slowly came apart! By the end I had 100,000 miles on it but everything else needed repairs. For an import I would pay more and go with a Subaru anyday, quality inside and outside.

You're full of it. Build Your Own - Chevrolet
The above is from GM's own site. I loaded up this Tahoe and got $50,900 and you know you can get much cheaper at the dealership. I swear some people simply hate America or have such blind brand loyalty that they're oblivious to everything else out there. To say you'd buy a 10 year old Civic over a brand new Malibu is insane. Considering how teenage Civic drivers use and abuse their Civic, you have no idea what you'd be getting yourself into and you'd be doing it without a warranty. However, a brand new 3.6 L dual overhead cam V6 Malibu is as good as it's competitors, the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry and it looks better than both. You'd also get it with more interior and trunk space as well as original factory warranty. Nope, your brand loyalty or hate-America attitude will drive you to the 10 year old beat up Civic with questionable history. Go right ahead Skippy.

No matter how many faults or how much they criticize Hondas, I will always remain a loyal Hondahead.

Same here. You're right about a 10 year old Civic, it's hard to find one that hasn't been some 17 year old's frankenstein project, but they are out there, and even If I did buy one like that,

I'm very familiar with Honda B and D series engines. They're remarkably plentiful, and eas to work on, so parts will never be a problem. I've been building SOHC D16Z6's for my buddy's Del Sol, who competes in SCCA ITA class grassroots racing.

They're so easy to find, due to the fact that most ricers are throwing them away in favor of the more powerful B series DOHC VTEC engines.

I've got enough D series parts in boxes, that I could build 5 more engines. Did you know that Honda engines are the only engines that spin counter clockwise?

That is common with many speedometers and always has been.

tex is right. And 2% isn't really that big a deal. So your car went 102K instead of 100K.
