IMHO - the UAW agrements should be the basis for all worker's wages and conditions in the USA.

They could come down to our level, but if we up to theirs the economy would grind to a halt.

I would much rather the money go back to the taxpayers in the form of economic stimulus checks.
People don't have the money to go out and buy a new vehicle so how is saving "The Big Three" helping out the average American?
I think we should focus more on public transportation, depsite the fact that most cities get about 15% of their revenue from vehicle sales...oh well, we need to shift in a different direction in this country.
The more money the government gives, the higher our deficit will go and eventually taxes will go up.

I just read today about a bank in LA (Louisiana) who is getting part of the bank bailout and they aren't even in bad shape. They will use the money to buy up other banks to expand their business.
This whole bailout mess is making me sick and I try not to think about it too much. We need to vote out these so called "leaders" in Washington and get some people who really understand that the majority of Americans are opposed to these bailouts.

This is why companies leave the US. I work in the Oil industry. over the last 15 years the multinational oil companies have moved lots of high level jobs overseas. and as it becomes more expensive to operate in the US they will continue to move plants and jobs offshore. I think there is a purpose of the unions, but I think the way they have too much power in the NE has led to many companies leaving the area. Look at the union leadership what a bunch of jokers what do they actually do....nothing.
It is not just the USA, all high paying countries around the world are dealing with these types of issues. I work in Europe a lot and I see how many many companies are just trying to survive until they can get rid of the last employee so they can shutdown and relocate. The benefits that they are offering to employees is so far above and beyond reason, that they can't hire anyone else.
however, I do not like the idea of companies relocating to China. China is basically slave labor country. You cannot compete when you have a slave labor market vs. a free labor market. I thing the crap that is imported from China needs to have high tariffs and as China complies, the tariffs go down and the wages make the rest of the world more competitive.

that would probably be okay if we hadn't borrowed so much money from china in the first place (for consumption instead of development). it is hard for us to dictate terms when we have been so financially dependent on china's lending, although it looks like (from current indications) their lending is about over now.

I think the US automibile have screwed themselves up big time and no, i dont agree to the bailout.
You wanna talk about environmental issues, fine, lets talk about that for a moment. We had access to renewable energy & technology all this time and what have these automobile industries done? Shut those people down with the technology when they could have embraced and incorporated it into their cars.
Their mindset is totally wrong, they waited to get slaughtered about them flying in their private jets? and now they come in boasting they drove and used their green cars? lol. Geees, whens the BS gonna stop??
Why have'nt they been pro-active before? why now? why let the japanese take lead in green cars?, why have they continued to build useless piles of hummers?
I dont see Honda or Toyota asking for any handouts?
