5.8 Pension and Healthcare Considerations - GM remains committed to fulfilling its obligations to its employees and retirees related to pension and healthcare, although the specifics of these obligations change over time due to competitive realities..................................GM agreed with the UAW to shift the liability of paying for health care for hourly retirees from GM to an independent trust (VEBA), scheduled to occur on January 1, 2010.
For the salaried population, those hired on or after January 1, 1993, receive no healthcare benefit in retirement, and for those who retain coverage GM has capped retiree health care spending at 2006 levels. In addition, effective January 1, 2009, GM will no longer provide supplemental healthcare
coverage to salaried retirees at age 65.

I'm just glad the UAW is finally getting reigned in. It will be interesting to see how the UAW acts in the coming weeks regarding the belt tightening it will be expected to do.
I'm gad to finally see the unions getting reigned in...!! This may well end the unions as we know them.
They had their place 50, 60, 70 years ago, but they have done plenty to ruin the economy the last bunch of years. They have totally out lived their usefulness...

Because 401Ks and a billion taco bell non-union slave wage jobs with no health care is doing so much more for our country....... yeah those inefficient unions impeding the free flow of capitalism and the exchange of worthless trinkets from china and paper wealth....... yeah, that's IT......

If the unions end in America you can forget about fair labor practices. We will become another Taiwan or China with low wages and horrible work conditions, like much of the south is already because of the lack of unions.
