This is my first post to the automotive board and thank all the experts, in advance, for your suggestions.....

I had a slow leak in one of my tires (2007 Hyundai Santa Fe w/27,000 miles). AAA came to put on the spare (or fix) and found a nail in the side (we're in a new construction area - this probably will happen again )

The guy said it can't be fixed b/c the hole is in the side of the tire. With that being said, I need a replacement..... or replacements.

I'm wondering:

1) Should I replace one, two, four? Three of them are still in good shape.

2) Where to go? STS? Costco? Dealership?

Thanks!

If the other three are in good shape, not showing any wear bars in the tread.....I'd just replace the one and call it a day.

I'd go anywhere but the dealership....unless you want to get ripped off.

You're not kidding! A local tire shop is asking $158 per tire (mounted) while the dealership wants $215!

Yeah, if you can get the same tire new, unless you have been really hard on the tires the rest of them are probably not worn down enough to matter.

FWIW, when I have had a situation with 3 good but fairly well-worn tires, I would generally buy 2 new ones and use one of the 3 worn ones as a spare.

Of course if you have 3 well-worn but good tires, it's worth checking the local used tire dealers, they may just have one that will match, at least better than a new one will match. As my favorite scrappie says, "Hey, what's wrong with used parts? The whole rest of your car is made out of used parts!"

Just to put your mind at ease the guy who said the tire cannot be repaired safely is correct. Everyone else has given you good advise. No need for mine.
