Lets not get this into a class-warfare thing. No one condemed the rights of a person that worked hard all their life to buy their dream car, or a person that worked hard to be successful, so I think diverting the topic to defensive comments about entrepeneurship and weath is unfair. Believe me I am as pro-capitalist as it gets. Although Muleskinners comments were over the top I agree.

The argument that many of these cars are overpriced is a fair argument. Also the questionable investment value for classic cars is a fair argument. Also that Barret-Jackson provides a high charged atmosphere that encourages bidding to the max, which is obvious and of course what they get paid to do.

Another thing that may have been missed. Some of the cars that are sold to benefit charities and such are simply write off's for the folks with enough dough to do so by buying them a those prices. Which is good for everyone involved.

Okay, that 57 Chevy was AWESOME!!!! WOW! Just WOW!!! Called hubby and told him to make sure he got a pic of that. How cool was THAT car. In case anyone missed it:

1957 Chevy
Body Style #1
Vin #2
48K ORIGINAL MILES!
Bought by a lady born in 1888
She traded in a 52 Chevy for it
Had the Bill of Sale
Her Drivers License
TONS of documentation
About as Original as you can get all the way

I'm not into the 57 Chevy's that much but do appreciate them and admire them. That one was a TRUE GEM!!!! Some guy bought it for $150K. That was a BEAUTY!!!!

------------------

Oh, and in case anyone missed it. The guys on Speed even said after one car rolled off the block for a LOT less than some would have thought........... "the buyers here KNOW their cars and no one went any higher because they KNEW the flaws on this one as we had pointed out". Trust me....... those people KNOW those cars and have researched them. They know when to stop bidding and won't go over a certain dollar figure. They pretty well know before they even go to the auction what cars they are interested in. Search them out in the tents prior. Check them out top to bottom. Check out any documentation that may be with it. Research the VIN. Talk to the owner/seller if they are available. They may decide then that it is not worth their trouble bidding on or they may say think it is. I'd hardly say these people are dumb with their money.

Okay, back to the action

From a guy that
- doesn't know what ROI means
- says other people have more money than brains
- know next to nothing about classic cars
- has a tagline begging for donations....

Default Has anyone on here ever bought from Barrett-Jackson?

Never been and couldn't afford to buy a car from there but I do enjoy watching it on TV, years ago I went to a smaller auction where many of these collectors auctioned off cars they had purchased in a group buy, there were some great deals, a buddy bought a 59 chevey and still has it, most of the cars were un-original with mismatched engines and such but for a fun car they were cool and affordable for the average person.

The old lady '57 would've gone for even more if had a V-8 in it IMO. That was a great story for sure though.
