Has anyone on here ever bought from Barrett-Jackson?
The old saying "a fool and his money are soon parted" could not be any truer.
I saw a 1995 Chevy Monte Carlo Led Sled cross the BJ line today. It brought like a $50k bid.
Now you're probably wondering "WTF!!?? A '95 Monte? They're a dime a dozen!!! Who would be stupid enough to buy one for $50k????"
Well supposedly it's a customized car....looks stock in the front, the rear almost looks stock, the roof line has been redone.
But then I got to thinking "does anyone really ever buy the cars that roll across the screen for the amount bidded on?" Or are the bids just artificial done by actors?
Maybe I should throw my old beater S-10 on there and see if it doesn't bring a $5k bid....? Just tell them it's owned by a military veteran.

Claim that Nick Nolte peed in the box one time when he was drunk, and you could probably get 10 grand out of it.

I am into classic cars and the auction is legitimate. I was in Scottsdale on business about 5 years ago when it was going on but could not get to the actual auction. There are auctions happening all the time around the country, Barrett Jackson is just the most famous. I have attended a couple of local auctions and met both buyers and seller....
It is just a hobby like many others. Some guys have a boat, some a plane... Some are just into cars.... With so many new cars seeming all the same, there is something special about the older cars (pre-1973)...

The prices paid for some cars on there is amazing. BJ must be a good collection of millionares based on some of the bids I've seen on there.

Yes, the cars DO sell for the amount shown on your tv. My husband is currently AT Barrett-Jackson. He will also be going to the Russo and Steele auction going on out there during this time. About 3-4 car auctions go on at the same time in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area this week. I've known people that have sold cars at Barrett-Jackson and bought them. My husband and most of his car collecting friends have all bought a car or two (or more ) at various car auctions. My husband has not bought anything at B-J but his friends have and he has bid on a few. There were some REAL STEALS last night that were GREAT BUYS!!! I would have LOVED to have had them. One was such a STEAL that the person that bought it could literally turn it tomorrow and probably get double what they paid for it last night.
The car auctions KNOW who buys what and a lot of times they contact those people to see if they are interested in putting a car in one of their upcoming auctions. As a matter of fact a good friend and fellow car collector was contacted by one of the big auction groups last week and asked to come see their collection. They were trying to see if they would be interested in putting some of their cars in one of the other BIG well known and high dollar auctions coming up in a few months. They will not take just anything. What you see roll across the stage on Tuesday and Wednesday nights are typically the low end of the lots they have but a few great cars do roll thru then. All of the custom hack jobs typically roll across the block on the first two nights or during the day the rest of the time before the REAL money gets there. Some of the better customs that they believe will fetch a high dollar amount will be rolled across the block on the higher demand times.
And no, they will not take an old "beater S 10". Some of the cars they turn their nose up at to not accept blow my mind. Just ask some of the people that have had the auction guys come view their collection to see what they can get and what they will take. They won't even give you a dollar amount either. They MAY give you a range if your lucky.
Right now some of the cars going across the auction blocks are a MUCH better ROI than places like the stock market and/or real estate. That is why the prices are not soft on them as some would have thought. There are only so many of these quality cars out there that have not been hacked up, repainted, modified, etc. Those are the cars in high demand and it will only go up.

Bought something there? naw...haven't won the lotto yet. But it's neat to be in the general vicinity of the auction(north Scottdale, Paradise Valley and Fountain Hills)while it's going on. I lived in the area for several years. You'd be amazed at what you see driving around. Got passed by a black Vette Coupe(64-67, some body mods and a history, don't recall all the details) on SR51 couple years ago...saw it go across the block the next day for close to 100 grand. But what was neat....2004 or 2005(don't recall for certain, so I'll post both), at 48th street and Thunderbird, pulling up behind Craig Jackson hisself, he's driving a beautiful Camaro with personalized AZ tags that read "67 Yenko", chirping the skinny redlines when he shifts, windows down, big grin. Turned left onto 48th street and left the sweetest melody of 427, 4speed and rubber in the air. Also had a Packard that went for over 100grand frequent the parts place I worked at part time. The owner and his son lived in the area, real packard enthusiast.
It's hard for many in cold climates to relate to the automobile nirvana we enjoy this time of year, the weather, even tho for us it's "cold". Old cars, classics, muscle....kinda a everyday thing. There was a guy around '04,'05 that drove a white Cuda or Challenger Convert with HEMI badging on a almost daily basis in the vicinity of Paradise Valley Mall. Honestly don't recall if it was a Cuda or Challenger, never really into the exacts of MoPar's. For you cold, snowbound guys...sorry.
Think I posted pics from a week or so ago, HEMI Cuda driving down the road on a saturday afternoon. Think it was under a thread about what old cars you've seen lately.

Yes, I get to drive any and every car sitting in our garage and driveway There were a couple of cars last year as they were on the block I was texting him, "I WANT!!! Get it". It was kind of neat for the kids to see their dad on the stage. There is a very good reason why we BOTH don't go to these things.... too dangerous Yet we are raising two GIRLS that are both liking the old cars and even the newer cars and exotics...... ouch.
Now, just gotta make sure to teach the kids to drive a stick and a car with no power brakes, no power steering, no power door locks and hand crank windows. Their friends love the hand crank windows, lol.
We have two cars right now that we are willing to part with and if we hold onto them for a bit longer they will be getting into tip top shape and could possibly get them out to B-J or another auction.
Oh, and if I ever want a good breath of "fresh air"........... just walk out into the garage, raise the door and crank 1 or more of them up. Love that smell

Watched both nights.
Retired mechanic and like to see some of the stock to mods comparisons.
Looks are somewhat deceiving if a person is not knowledged as to the cars original design and appearence. No doubt that some were beauties.
Problem I have is the extent some will go to show a vehicle to be as original as it originally came off the assembly line along with the accessories available from the new car dealer that dresses up the vehicle.
I'm a VW NUT of 28 yrs and was slightly impressed with the 1961 VW Van with the double size doors (only sold in Europe at the time) for business use customers delivery etc. Today they are in demand in the US to those in the old VW field. These were never sold in the US.
Anyway...body...interior...pop out windows...paint etc were all exceptially done very well and original.
Draw back was the ENGINE. NOT CORRECT for the year. At a glance from the camera...saw the wrong Carb and Brazil newer 009 model distributor. Should have had the vacuem unit for originality. Wrong engine for the year and the price paid was too high. Original complete engines are available in the mkt place. Buyer probably bought for looks.
Not trying to be sarcastic or anything just expressing my personal opinion based on my experience and knowledge of a certain type of auto, as the vehicle was not 100% original as depicted.
Oh well..."beauty is in the eyes of the beholder".

Watch and listen REAL CLOSE! If it is the CORRECT to the "T" all the way original they will stop the bidding and hype it up to get more money out of it. They know if it is not a TRUE original or not and know their stuff and they will play it up BIG if it is to get more $$$$ out of it.
Here is one last night that I can not believe ANYONE paid what they did for this thing and it went for $53,900. It was a collaboration between Orange County Chopper and GM but still .............. what a WASTE! It is on a "bill of sale" ONLY. NO VIN NUMBER! Most likely can not even be registered in ANY state, insured nor is it street legal.
