Maybe you think it's a good idea to read a map while finding 20 addresses in Metro Chicago traffic. Personally I would just as soon have a machine tell me "turn right in 200 ft".

Or trying to find Wo Fat's Tattoo Parlor in San Francisco's China Town.

To the OP,
Garmin and Magellan are both good, find the one with the features you need/want and go for it.

I use the "bean bag" thingie that sits on your dash. I got at Best Buy and use it instead of the suction cup method on the windshield.

That's the beauty of the net, one can be as big a butt head as they want, and say the most ridiculous things, and no one can punch your lights out...

I prefer the handheld GPS units for their portability.

Top rated units by GPS Magazine.

I also use Garmin's quick-release bean bag mount instead of the windshield ones. I had my doubts it would stay put, but it does.

I got a lower end Garmn Nuvi 200 for Christmas from my Dad. I haven't used it yet,but I probably will on my next road trip somewhere I'm not familiar with.
I will admit that I probably never would've bought one,but I'm glad I have it.

Definitely agree, deckdoc.

Those BeanBag buggers are tough to beat and available on the internet for about 15 bucks compared to about 45 bucks at BestBuy, etc. Also, much easier to hide the entire unit in trunk for security.

Thanks very much! I kinda like to use the Atlas,or just plain wing it! I am glad that my Dad bought us one though. Even though it was the cheapest model I thought he spent way too much on us for Christmas.
