Due to alot of requests - here is a poll/photos of the mid-size wagons for the 1971-73 year range. Some models changed during this period, so I will try to post the changes if possible. I hope everyone enjoys this, because it really does take me along time to do this. These were the top of the line mid-size wagons for the 71-74 year range.

Default Does anyone

like the Coronet Crestwood's lines as much as I do? Simple, sleek and unpretentious

Funny that the 74 Satellite ad talks about noise reduction, and yet the 74 Coronet wagon was the noisiest wagon in the tests!!

Went with the "Brady Bunch" Plymouth wagon. Had one for about three years in the early 80's. It was dad's old work beast when he parked it in favor of a new Volare wagon. Sat for a year almost up to the rear axle in mud, took a chain and a winch to get it out from under the tree. Took another week to get it tuned up. What finally worked was disconnecting a bunch of vacuum lines and capping off the ends. Must have had a mile of hose all around that engine. Ran like a top after that.

Like I said, served me well for three years with minimal upkeep. Think a timing chain was going and I just didn't have the inspiration to deal with it as my situation had improved enough to get something newer. What I did like about it was that big trapdoor on the back floor, wood with a metal cover. Cut two holes in it, dropped in a couple speakers and boy did that make for a nice sound system. Kept that piece of wood and made two small stand up cabinets for those speakers, kids still have them so something of it lives on.

Personally, these are cars I wouldn't really want to revisit. They were beasts of burden of their day. But, nice thread, as are all the ones you've been coming up with, thanks!

Yeah, for some reason they did not show the model with the woodgrain on either of the Buicks, but woodgrain was optional on those Buicks.

Yeah, I like that Coronet. I think that car used the same windshield as the Dodge Charger of those years- which as you know, now has a 2009 retro model out. Next time you see one, notice how much the windshield looks like the one on this Coronet wagon... pretty neat.

Cars got bigger bumpers in 73' but I think Dodge did a good job of working them in without being too big looking on this Coronet. I would take one, but with low-back bench seat please. I have never liked high-back bench seats, which seemed to make their way in as options on some of the wagons of the early 70s... well on the Fords and Mopars. GM never had high-back bucket seats on their wagons (except Vega). Ford offered them as options, as did Mopar.

Default I have a

1:18 scale model of a 71 Road Runner, mustard color with a white roof. A real beauty. I also have a 73 Eldorado, beige with a brown roof, among others. Just totally amazing replicas

That Crestwood wagon also does not have the tacky look of some of the bigger mopars like the newport--I noticed that the 73 Coronets, even the old ones, still looked tight and well constructed. In the photo it looks very solid and tightly constructed, though i remember a Motor Trend article from 73 that said it for some reason did not have a "down under feeling of solidity" like the Laguna and Gran Torino wagons did

There were two wagons, I believe, in the five years of the show. Carol Brady had Pylmouth Satellites, but I am not sure of the years, though they were contemporaneous with the show's original air dates.

Yeah - "Carol" always had a Plymouth Satellite wagon - always brown, without woodgrain, but it was always the "mid-line" model.

When the show aired in 1969, she had a brown 69' Satellite wagon and kept that through 1970. Then for the 71 season, she got the newly designed Satellite Regent wagon. I think late 72' they got a different one (very hard to tell the difference) except the "Regent" emblem was on the rear lower door, rather than the front fender on the 71' model. I think the later one also had a larger strip of chrome on the tailgate. I have some photos somewhere.

"Mike" had a 69' Fury convertible to start, then switched off to a Barracuda convertible for 70-71. Then in 72' he had a 72' Impala convertible, 73' a Caprice convertible, then in 74' a 74' Caprice convertible.

Only in TV land would you be rich enough to afford a new car every year for you, your wife, have enough to raise 6 kids and still afford to have Alice around.

I don't recall Mike ever having a 71 Cuda convertible....any idea what engine combo it had?
