It is good that this was not the case when gas was $4/gallon. At $1.80, the sales tax on gas is equivalent to 25% in my state ($.18 federal and $/18 state). That is higher than any other sales tax I pay. If it were 25% last year instead of a flat rate, gas would have been $5 per gallon instead of $4. We should not have any incentives for the government to want gas prices to be high...

I would save a bunch of money with this new tax. I would be rewarded for driving less miles in my non-fuel efficient vehicles. It would save me a fortune in taxes on the fuel that I use in lawn tractors. Also, it would save me taxes on the fuel that I pour into my customers on and off road vehicles. However, I would not submit to having GPS devices installed in my vehicles regardless of the savings, I would walk first. I say let the legislators be the guinea pigs for say.....the first five years or so.

Remember, if any change in taxation will only mean more taxes collected. No change as ever resulted in less tax.
