One wonders if you talk from exerience or only parrot "common knowledge" I had one that went 130,000 and was still going strong when I traded it in.

I would worry about reliability, my friend at work bought a Taurus and ended up having ford buy it back because of all the problems he had.
By the way, it looks like everyother mid sized car out there.

The late 80's / early 90's Tauruses left a bad taste in everyones mouth... and the biggest problem with dealing with simple minded customers is that you ruin their possibility of retention with one incident and then spend decades doing well trying to gain their trust back. It's almost animalistic.
Good thing I fully educate myself on every big purchase I make... there are rarely any surprises for smart people. That and I care who I am giving my money to.

1995 Taurus Wagon-47,000 miles, still running (long story why the low mileage) bought new by father in law
1995 Taurus Wagon-250,000 miles, still running with original motor, bought new
1995 Taurus Sedan, bought new, traded at 65,000 for a
1998 Taurus Sedan, bought new, car totalled in 2004 with 140,000 miles on it
2002 Taurus Wagon, 150,000 miles, bought new
