How much does it cost to replace INTAKE system on a car?

How serious is it?

I have a '99 GM 3800 engine.

that depends what you're talking about. do you mean the airbox, or the throttle body, or the intake manifold, the map/maf sensor, etc etc? there's a lot of pieces in the intake system. i'm sure you could find any of them in a junkyard cheap enough though.

What are you looking to replace exactly? Why would you want to replace the entire "intake system"

The 3.8 gm engine is notorious for the intake manifold gasket going out. I think that is what the original poster is referring to. If that is the problem, it is pricey at $700 plus for the complete job.

Thats what I was thinking the OP meant, but who knows. The 3.1 and 3.4L's are more common than the 3.8 though.

I really don't know. The auto shop said it would cost me $600-$650. It still runs fine; there's nothing out of the ordinary thats noticaeable.

Sorry about the delay of this response and thank you for your reply's!

Wow, you need to have them show you the problem or take someone with more knowledge of cars in there with you. If you don't know whats wrong or what they need to do to fix it, then you could be in a bind.. Didn't they give you an estimate sheet? What was it in the shop for in the first place if nothing is noticeable.
